Is it permissible to read parts of the poetry of a well-known poet whose poetry incites discord and deviance and contains disbelief, if these parts are free of discord and disbelief?

You are permitted to read the poetry of this man if it is free from disbelief (kufr), and if you are among those who can distinguish between truth and falsehood. Scholars have often cited the poetry of the people of Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era) and those given to immorality. Nevertheless, you must avoid reading the poetry of atheists and heretics, and content yourself with the poetry of the people of faith and Sunnah. It is advisable to refer to the book "Al-Inhiraf al-Aqadi fi Adab al-Hadatha wa Fikriha" (Deviant Beliefs in Modern Literature and Thought) by Dr. Sa'id bin Nasir al-Ghamdi.
