Am I entitled to demand an apartment to live in with my children after divorce, knowing that I contributed financially to the purchase of apartments owned by my husband, and he refuses to give me an apartment claiming that my contribution was in exchange for his permission for me to work?

If a divorce occurs, the husband is obligated to provide housing for the divorced wife, even if it is rented. As for the wife's contribution to building the apartments, the details of its recovery from the husband refer to previous fatwas. The original principle is that the wife's acquired money is her right, and the husband's claim that her contribution was in exchange for her work is not accepted unless there is evidence. Reconciliation is advisable, and there should be no haste in divorce or khul' (divorce at the wife's instance), especially when there are children, as divorce is disliked, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There should be no harm nor reciprocating harm." The husband's threat to marry another woman is a sign of ill-treatment, and Allah Almighty says: "And live with them in kindness."
