What is the ruling of the Sharia regarding parents refusing to marry their son to a girl he met online, knowing that their refusal is based on legitimate Sharia, moral, and social reasons, and this has led to a deterioration in his psychological and academic condition?

This problem underscores the necessity of caution regarding online conversations between men and women. The son erred by establishing a relationship with a foreign girl, lying to his mother, and disclosing the matter to his aunt. The author disagrees with rejecting the son's marriage to the girl, especially if he is deeply attached to her, for the following reasons: 1. Not everyone who commits such an act is considered deviant; it might be a lapse. 2. The son's isolation and academic struggles might be due to his intense attachment to the girl. The remedy could be marriage to the one he loves, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Nothing is seen for two who love one another like marriage." 3. The lack of knowledge about the girl's character can be remedied by inquiring about her.

Therefore, it is advised to ascertain the condition of the girl and her family. If she is righteous, there is no impediment to their marriage, and this would be the best remedy for both of them. However, if the son's attachment is not severe, the marriage can be rejected, and a girl of good character and religious commitment can be sought. It is also advised to turn to Allah and perform istikhara (seeking guidance from Allah).
