What is the ruling on consuming bank interest due to financial need, and can it be disbursed after a period?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to deposit money in a usurious bank for the purpose of obtaining interest. If one is compelled to do so, it is not lawful for him to take the interest. Whoever repents from dealing in usury should take back his principal and dispose of the interest by giving it to the poor and needy. He is not allowed to benefit from it because it is unlawful money. If he has benefited from any part of it, he should repent and give an equivalent amount from his own money in its place.
