What is the ruling on applying what is stated in the book "Benefits of the Noble Quran" – such as the saying regarding "Surat Maryam (Mary), upon her be peace: Ja'far al-Sadiq [upon him be peace] said: Whoever writes it and places it in a clean, narrow-necked glass vessel, and keeps it in his home, his good will abound, and he will see good things in his sleep, as will the members of his household, and if anyone stays with him, they too will see good" – and is this considered sorcery?

It is permissible to write the Holy Quran in a vessel or any other pure and clean object for healing and seeking blessings (istishfa' and tabarruk). This is the opinion of the majority of scholars and has been narrated from Ibn Abbas and a number of the Salaf. What has been mentioned about Ja'far al-Sadiq might be from the unique properties of the Quran that Allah reveals to some of His servants. A group of scholars have authored works on the unique properties of the Quran, and most of what is mentioned therein is based on the experiences of the righteous, just as Ibn Taymiyyah did by writing the verse "And it was said, 'O earth, swallow your water'" to treat nosebleeds.
