Is it permissible for a woman to expose any part of her chest, ribs, arms, or legs in front of other women?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no objection to a woman showing her forearms, neck, and head in front of other women, though it is preferable for clothing to be more ample and concealing. It is advised to avoid imitating the attire of disbelieving women. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that the women of the Companions wore garments that covered them from the palm of the hand to the ankle. There is no harm in showing the leg if a woman lifts her garment for some work, but it is not permissible for the garment to be cut to the knee; rather, it must extend to the ankle.
