Is it permissible to use spirit vinegar, such as vinegar extracted from apples, and mayonnaise and ketchup?

First: It is permissible to use apple cider vinegar, as the basic principle for foods is permissibility, and nothing is forbidden from them except what the evidence has forbidden, and what has been left unmentioned is considered pardoned.

Second: There is no disagreement regarding the permissibility of using vinegar, even if it originated from wine, provided that it transformed into vinegar on its own. It has been authentically reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ate vinegar and praised it. However, if alcohol is processed to become vinegar, its use is not permissible, due to what Muslim narrated: that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered the pouring out of the wine belonging to orphans and did not permit its conversion into vinegar.

Third: Eating mayonnaise and ketchup is permissible, as the basic principle is permissibility, unless it is known that they contain something forbidden, such as intoxicating alcohol. The presence of vinegar in them does not cause harm, because the vinegar may originate from sources other than wine.
