If the husband does not provide his wife with the obligatory maintenance, it is permissible for her to refuse intimacy with him, according to some scholars. This was mentioned by Al-Shirazi and Ibn Qudamah. A capable husband is obligated to earn and spend. We advise the wife not to deny her husband what is permissible of intimacy, and to be patient with him in times of hardship, and for understanding and compassion to prevail between them.
