Is it permissible to sacrifice a ram with a docked tail, such as an Australian ram, for Eid?

It is permissible to sacrifice a ram that has no tail fat (إلية) if it originally belongs to a breed that naturally lacks it (such as the Australian ram). However, it is not permissible to sacrifice an animal that was created with tail fat but then had it completely amputated. As for an animal created without tail fat, yet belonging to a breed that normally has it, the majority of scholars hold that it is not permissible, while the Shafi'is maintain its permissibility. There is a difference of opinion regarding an animal whose tail fat has been partially amputated: the Hanafis and Hanbalis state that it is not permissible if half or more is cut off, and the Malikis if one-third or more is cut off, whereas the Shafi'is hold that it is not permissible if any amount, however slight, is cut off, considering that what is permissible is an animal free from any defect that reduces the meat or other edible parts.
