Is there a contradiction between the Hadith in Bukhari: "They passed by a funeral, and they praised it, saying good things. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'It has become obligatory.... You are Allah's witnesses on earth,'" and the weak Hadith: "If you see a man frequenting the mosque, bear witness to his faith"? And how can they be reconciled?

The two hadiths are not contradictory. The first indicates the permissibility of testifying to the goodness of a deceased righteous person, and the second encourages testifying to the faith of those who frequent mosques, which is a form of testifying to goodness. Ibn Hajar mentioned that praising the deceased is permissible absolutely, while praising the living is permissible as long as it does not lead to excessive flattery.
