It is authentically established in the description of Jesus, peace be upon him, that he was "Adam" (dark-complexioned), and in other narrations that he was "red" (ruddy). The reconciliation between these is that his color was a mix of the two, leaning towards both. So, "udmah" is dark complexion, while "humrah" (redness) means that he inclined towards ruddiness and whiteness, which is the closest to correctness. This description is added to distinguish him from others mentioned in the same context. If he emerged from a bath, the redness from the heat would appear on him. His color was among the best shades of dark complexion, leaning towards whiteness and ruddiness, and not intensely dark.
