The amount of food required for each day is one mudd of food. According to the Shafi'is and Malikis, it is one mudd of food. According to the Hanbalis, it is one mudd of wheat or half a sa' of other foodstuff. Its approximate measure is 750 grams. It is permissible to pay the value of the feeding to a charitable organization, and it is permissible to give it all to a single poor person. What is obligatory is to feed the poor person or give him the food, not to pay its value, except that Abu Hanifa and Ibn Taymiyyah permitted paying the value if there was a benefit for the poor in doing so.
