The question

Is it permissible to use and sell shoe inserts or insoles that increase height, knowing that they are comfortable and harmless, but may be used to deceive a suitor or for jobs that require a certain height? And is this considered a change in Allah's creation?

The answer

It is permissible to wear inserts that increase a person's height, subject to two conditions: that they do not cause harm, and that they are not for a forbidden purpose such as ostentation (tabarruj) or deception (tadlis). Indeed, a short woman from the Children of Israel once used two wooden legs to appear taller. As for selling these inserts, it is permissible to sell them to one who will use them for a permissible purpose, or to one whose condition is unknown. However, it is forbidden to sell them to one who is predominantly thought to use them for a forbidden purpose.
