How could Imam Malik reject assuming ihram before the miqat out of fear of bid‘ah (innovation), while the Malikis obligate a sacrificial offering (hady) upon whoever does so? And is it permissible to switch from the Maliki madhhab to adopt the opinion of another madhhab to avoid the hady, especially after assuming ihram from the airplane before the miqat for fear of overshooting it?

It is well-known among the Malikis that it is disliked to enter into ihram before the miqat, although it is valid. They differed on whether this dislike is absolute or restricted to being close to the miqat, or if there is no dislike at all. None of them said that entering ihram before the miqat is forbidden, nor does it necessitate a sacrificial offering (hady), because the hady is only required for abandoning an obligation or performing an act that necessitates it. The Malikis mandated a compensatory sacrifice (dam) for anyone who passes the miqat without entering ihram, because they abandoned an obligation, which is entering ihram from the miqat. Therefore, for someone who enters ihram before the miqat out of a desire not to pass it without being in ihram, their action is good and there is no blame in it; their ihram is valid and properly concluded.
