Among the beliefs of Ahl al-Sunnah is to love all the Companions, to acknowledge their virtue, and that they are righteous, upright, and diligent. He who is correct among them receives two rewards, and he who errs receives one reward, and his error is overshadowed by the sea of his good deeds. It is obligatory to refrain from delving into what occurred between them. What happened between Ali, Aisha, Talha, and Al-Zubair was due to their difference in how to pursue Othman’s killers. Ali believed in first establishing security, then punishing the perpetrators, while Aisha, Talha, and Al-Zubair believed in pursuing them immediately. This strife was instigated by hypocrites, and all of it was by Allah's decree and destiny. The Companions are diligent and rewarded, and those who instigated the strife are cursed. Our stance is to be pleased with the Companions and to seek forgiveness for them, in fulfillment of Allah's saying: (And those who came after them say, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brethren who preceded us in faith and do not place in our hearts any malice toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful.") [Al-Hashr: 10]. When Imam Ahmad was asked about this strife, he cited Allah's saying: (That was a nation that has passed on.
