How can one strengthen faith and knowledge of religious matters if they grew up in a family environment with weak religious commitment, yet possess a sincere desire to commit?
The period of youth is among the best days of a person's life, and a blessing for which one will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection. As stated in the : "The feet of the son of Adam will not move on the Day of Resurrection from before his Lord until he is questioned about five things: about his life and how he spent it, and about his youth and how he wore it out..." And what indicates the virtue of a young person's uprightness is that he is among the seven whom Allah will honor on the Day of Resurrection by shading them with His shade. As narrated in the Two Sahihs: "Seven will be shaded by Allah with His shade: a just ruler, and a young man who grew up in the worship of his Lord... (the rest of the Hadith)." The love of religion should be a motive for uprightness, and this matter is easy for whoever is truthful with Allah.
