Is it obligatory to immerse oneself in worldly amusements and concerns, or to endure hardships and trials according to God's will, despite feeling that life is suffering?
This life is a realm of trials and worries, and the Hereafter for believers is a realm of bliss. Death is a rest for those whose deeds are righteous. The Prophet ﷺ forbade wishing for death except by saying: "O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and cause me to die if death is better for me."
One must beware of despair and despondency, for they are characteristics of disbelievers and those astray. Problems are solved through patience, reliance on Allah, contentment with His decree, piety, and certainty that what afflicts a servant was not meant to miss him. "And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out." Allah may test a servant for a wisdom and to attain a high rank.
Beware of the company of heedless worldly people, and accompany righteous believers who cooperate in goodness and seeking knowledge, "for Satan is with the one, and he is further from the two."
Increase in the remembrance of Allah, for "unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." The greatest remembrance is the contemplation of the Qur'an, for it is "a healing and a mercy for the believers." Maintain regular adhkar (remembrances), listen to beneficial Islamic tapes, and participate in spreading good, for he who guides to good is like its doer.
Supplicate to Allah earnestly and with certainty of response during the virtuous times of answering.
