What is the ruling on touching the penis with the right hand, based on the Hadith: "None of you should touch his penis with his right hand"?

The prohibition of touching the male organ with the right hand while urinating in the hadith, "None of you should touch his male organ with his right hand while he is urinating," is regarded by the majority of scholars as being for discouragement (tanzih) and detestability (karahah), not for prohibition (tahrim). Whereas the Zahiris consider it to be for prohibition. Imam Al-Bukhari, however, is of the view that the prohibition is specific to the act of urinating only, and he adduces as proof the hadith of Talq ibn Ali, "It is but a piece of you." It is more befitting to honor the right hand by refraining from touching the male organ with it, unless there is a need.
