Is it permissible to rent commercial shops from a man who built them with ill-gotten money, the source of which is a hotel that serves alcohol and has abominations?

It is permissible to rent these shops from the market owner for two reasons: First, dealing with someone whose wealth is mixed, containing both lawful and unlawful elements, is permissible. The hotel owner's wealth is mixed due to the presence of permissible activities within it. Second, the unlawful earnings are tied to the earner's responsibility, not to the shops themselves, and renting them is permissible. Ibn Abi Zayd said: "If someone possesses unlawful wealth and uses it to buy a house or a garment without coercing anyone into selling, there is no harm in you buying that house or garment from the one who bought it with unlawful wealth."
