How can one make up for missed prayers for someone who has only recently been regular in performing them for a few years? And is making them up done through supererogatory prayers and night vigils, or by performing each obligatory prayer two or three times? And what is the fate of someone who dies before making them all up?

The questioner must repent to Allah for her past negligence in prayer and maintain it in the future. Although scholars differ on whether one who abandons prayer out of laziness is a disbeliever, the majority view is that such a person is not a disbeliever, and they must make up for the prayers they missed.

The questioner should make up for the prayers she missed according to her ability. If she knows their number, she should make them up. If she does not know, she should continue making them up until she is certain her obligation is fulfilled. Making them up can be done at any time, with some jurists obliging the observance of sequence between missed prayers, while others consider it recommended.

If the time for a current prayer arrives, it takes precedence over making up missed prayers. And whoever repents sincerely from their sins, Allah accepts their repentance and shows them mercy.
