What should a husband do whose wife falls short in managing the household, neglects him and the children, does not care for herself, and is excessively materialistic, despite her apparent righteousness and religiosity, and after repeated advice has yielded no benefit?

The husband's rights over his wife are great, among them enabling him to enjoy intimacy, and she is obligated to serve him reasonably, to adorn herself for him, and to obey him in matters that do not involve disobedience. If she abstains from these rights, the husband has the right to follow the Quranic approach for dealing with 'nushuz' (disobedience/rebellion), by admonishing her, then forsaking her in bed, and if that does not work, he may strike her a non-injurious blow. It is advised to deal with wisdom and gentleness, and if necessary and if he has the ability to be just, he may marry another.
