Is it permissible for the wife to refuse to fulfill her marital duties to a husband who neglects his family and is preoccupied away from them? Is it permissible to dispute with him and continue living like strangers under one roof while dropping some rights? Is the husband entitled to prevent his wife from working despite his negligence in providing for her, and is she always required to seek his permission to go out? Is he entitled to prevent his children from marrying in order to pay off his debts? Is such behavior considered disobedience (nushuz) that angers Allah and suspends the acceptance of good deeds?

It is recommended to be patient and to frequently supplicate for the husband's guidance and righteousness, and to advise him with wisdom, or to seek the help of someone who influences him. It is not permissible for a wife to deny her husband his right to the bed unless he is an oppressor, and this may increase discord. Estrangement between spouses is not permissible. It is not permissible for a woman to leave her home without her husband's permission except for a legitimate excuse, such as going out for work if he does not provide for her, while adhering to Sharia regulations. A man does not have the right to prevent his children from marrying, and obedience to him in this matter is not obligatory. Allah's wrath upon a person or the non-acceptance of his deeds are matters of the unseen that only Allah knows, and a Muslim must avoid whatever angers Allah.
