How can one achieve lowering the gaze and avoiding intermingling given women's participation in Jihad, the Mothers of the Believers' teaching of the Companions, and their narration of Ahadith?

During the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, women participated in battles, tending to the wounded and providing water. Nusaybah bint Ka'b al-Maziniyyah even fought against the polytheists. They also attended prayers in the mosque with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Mothers of the Believers narrated hadith. They were committed to the lawful hijab, lowering their gaze, and avoiding blameworthy mixing. They would pray behind the rows of men and would not raise their heads until the men had raised theirs. They would exit the mosque before the men and keep to the edges of the road. They acquired knowledge in compliance with Allah's saying: "And remember what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allah and wisdom." However, they were modest and veiled from men, and cautious about softening their speech, in accordance with Allah's saying: "And when you ask them for something, ask them from behind a partition" and "Then do not be soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate words." It is believed that the Mothers of the Believers and the women of the Companions were the first to adhere firmly to the Qur'an and Sunnah and act upon them. Allah indeed praised this generation of Companions in the Qur'an.
