How does a Muslim reconcile Allah Almighty’s command to lower the gaze from women in His saying: "Tell the believing men to reduce [some of] their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do," with the Prophet’s (PBUH) hadith which permits looking at a woman who pleases a man, and then going to his wife, which is his saying: "If one of you is pleased by a woman, and she falls into his heart, let him go to his wife and have intercourse with her, for that will repel what he feels"?

There is no contradiction between the command to lower one's gaze in the Quran and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "If one of you is attracted to a woman...", because the required lowering of the gaze is that which a person can control. The word "min" (from) in Allah's (the Most High) saying: (Tell the believing men to lower their gaze) [24:30] is for partiality, because the first glance is not owned and not intended, as indicated by the hadith: "Do not follow a glance with another glance, for the first is yours but the last is not." The attraction mentioned in the hadith may not be due to an unlawful gaze; rather, it may arise from other things, such as hearing a voice. Therefore, there is no contradiction between the two.
