What is the way to reconcile the desire of the spouses to move, work, and live in Saudi Arabia to ensure a committed Islamic environment, with the rejection of the husband's father who sees his son's current job at the university as an important social status?

Obedience to one's father is obligatory in what is known to be good, provided that the father has a benefit in what he commands and that the command does not cause harm to the son. If the father insists on his son remaining in mixed-gender university teaching, the son can search for another, non-mixed-gender university (such as Al-Azhar). If that is not possible, then obedience to the father is not binding, because the husband's remaining in mixed-gender universities is a cause for suspicion of temptation and evil, and it brings him material and psychological harm. The husband should persuade his father of the evils, but if he insists, he should do what is in his religious and worldly best interest. If the father's command stems from foolishness, it should not be heeded. The son is permitted to travel for purposes other than jihad without the parents' permission. After that, the husband should strive to appease his father, for whoever pleases Allah by incurring the displeasure of people, Allah will suffice him against the people.
