Does the woman who throws away spoiled food from her own cooking or from restaurants, after leaving it in the refrigerator until it rots, bear a sin for doing so? Is her action of placing it in a bag outside the trash can correct? Does she bear a sin for leaving behind bread crumbs and rice grains that cannot be gathered? And is she sinful for leaving a piece of bread on the ground out of embarrassment to pick it up in front of men?

One is not obligated to force oneself to eat something harmful or unappetizing. It is permissible to feed it to an animal or discard it in the trash if it is no longer fit for use or if there is no one to use it. There is no need to keep it in the refrigerator until it spoils. Bread should be kept off the ground due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Honor bread." As for bread crumbs and grains of rice that are difficult to pick up, there is no harm in vacuuming them and disposing of them in the trash due to the difficulty. One is not required to bow down before men to pick up fallen bread, but it must be respected and not dishonored.
