What is the Sharia ruling on the marriage of a man and a woman who committed Zina and had a daughter, given the refusal of the wife's family to approve this marriage, and is he obligated to marry her to protect her reputation and raise his daughter?
One must adhere firmly to repentance and perform good deeds that expiate sins, for Allah the Almighty says: "Indeed, good deeds do away with evil deeds." [Hud: 114]. It is not permissible to marry an adulteress until she repents. If she repents, then it is permissible to marry her, and her family has no right to prevent her if the suitor is a man of good character and religious commitment. The lineage of an illegitimate child is established with her mother only, because the seminal fluid of adultery is disregarded and does not establish lineage. It is not permissible to separate a mother from her daughter, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever separates a mother from her child, Allah will separate him from his loved ones on the Day of Resurrection."
