Is suicide permissible in Islamic law for a girl if she is on the verge of being raped, in order to preserve her honor and the honor of her family?
All praise is due to Allah for the salvation and preservation of those who inquired. Suicide, meaning self-killing, is one of the gravest sins forbidden by Islamic law, and it is impermissible to commit it regardless of how harsh the circumstances may be, due to the general texts of severe warnings in the Quran and Sunnah. A woman who is raped is not an adulteress, and the punishment for adultery is not applied to her; rather, she is a victim. Allah has forgiven my Ummah for mistakes, forgetfulness, and that which they are coerced into. It is not permissible for a woman to kill herself because of rape, whether before or after its occurrence. Instead, she must exercise patience and seek reward from Allah, for her killing herself is a grave sin that makes her an oppressor of her own soul.
