What is the ruling on working in the inquiries department of a brokerage firm that deals with banks, knowing that the nature of the work is debt collection and inquiring about borrowers?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to work in a field that involves assisting those who deal in usury or facilitating usurious loans, based on the hadith narrated by Jabir, which states that the Prophet (peace be upon him) cursed the devourer of usury, its payer, its scribe, and its two witnesses, and said that they are all equal. Therefore, writing the contract of sale between those dealing in usury and bearing witness to it is forbidden, due to the prohibition of assisting in falsehood. Providing information about an applicant for a usurious loan to a bank is considered a type of forbidden assistance, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression."
