Is what the father did, in distributing residential apartments to his children, considered just, especially with his favoritism of some children in the size of the apartments and his not collecting equal rent from them, and what is obligatory to do concerning this action?

Justice must be observed among children in giving gifts. The preferable equality is to divide the gift among them according to the division of inheritance, meaning that the male receives the share of two females, according to the Hanbalis. However, the majority view is that the female is given the same as the male. As for financial support (nafaqa), justice is not required in it; each child is given what suits them according to their need, such as one who needs housing, it is permissible for his father to house him for free. If the father is unjust in giving gifts, this does not nullify his right to dutifulness and kindness, and it is not permissible to supplicate against him.
