Love is of many kinds, and one of them is a man's love for a woman who is not his wife. He is not held accountable for it if it occurs unintentionally, for Allah holds one accountable for what they earn and intend. However, a person is held accountable for their actions and words resulting from this love. Whoever is afflicted by it should fear Allah and lower his gaze. If he finds a way to marry her, he should marry her, for the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "There is nothing like marriage for two who love each other." Otherwise, he should turn his heart away from her.

As for whoever lets love lead him to unrestricted looking, preoccupation of the heart, and transgression of Allah's boundaries, he is sinful, and this is considered an illness that must be treated. We advise the questioner to fear Allah and turn his heart away from the married woman, neither speaking to her nor looking at her. He should focus his attention on his wife and children and persevere in reading the Quran and making supplication. He is warned against corrupting a woman against her husband, for "He is not of us who incites a woman against her husband." He must repent to Allah for what he has done by looking, for Allah Almighty says: "Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their gaze." Perhaps the change in his circumstances is an immediate punishment for this sin, so he must turn to Allah and prepare to meet Him.
