Does a divorce occur with the husband's statement: "You are divorced if I do not make you do this thing," and then he retracts his condition on the same day?

The husband's utterance of a conditional divorce has two scenarios:

1. If a specific time is set: The divorce takes effect when the time expires before the condition is fulfilled. This is the preponderant opinion of the majority of scholars. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said that the husband is liable for an expiation for breaking an oath (kaffarat yamin) if he did not intend divorce. 2. If no specific time is set: The divorce does not take effect until the fulfillment of the sworn-upon action becomes impossible, such as the death of one of the spouses, and the wife remains under his marital bond.

The husband must be asked about his intention. The preponderant opinion of the majority of scholars is that the husband cannot retract a conditional divorce, while Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah differed on this point.
