Is a divorce pronounced by a husband valid when he is in a state of extreme anger and is addicted to drugs? And what are the ways to help a husband recover from addiction?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The general rule is that the divorce of an angry person is effective, unless the anger is so severe that the divorcer does not comprehend what he is saying or control his actions. The proof for this is the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "No divorce in ighlaq." As for treating drug addiction, it begins by examining the underlying causes such as idleness, bad company, media, and environment, and attempting to distance the addict from them, engaging him with other things, such as giving him booklets that recount stories of those who repented from drugs and explain their prohibition and harms. Also, seeking help from some righteous people to draw near to him and guide him, and contacting anti-drug committees if they exist. There is no harm in taking him to a doctor specialized in addiction treatment.
