What is the ruling on divorcing one's wife in a state of extreme anger, knowing that one did not lose consciousness?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Slight anger does not prevent the occurrence of divorce. As for anger that leads to loss of awareness, like madness, it does prevent it. Intense anger that has not reached the point of losing awareness is a matter of scholarly disagreement. Therefore, it is advisable to refer the matter to the Sharia court for a ruling. It is also advisable to avoid uttering words of divorce during disputes and to avoid the causes of anger, following the Prophet's (peace be upon him) advice: "Do not get angry."
