Should missed prayers from a period of ignorance be made up, and how are they to be made up?

If a boy reaches one of the signs of puberty (emission of semen, growth of pubic hair, reaching 15 years of age), he becomes obligated to perform religious duties (mukallaf). If he abandons prayer after puberty, he must repent and make up for the missed prayers, including those intentionally or ignorantly omitted, or prayers performed while in a state of major ritual impurity (janaba). This is the view of the majority of scholars.

Making up for missed prayers is done by performing as many prayers as one can daily, in addition to the five current obligatory prayers, until one is reasonably certain that the obligation has been fulfilled. It is narrated from Ibn Qudamah in "Al-Mughni" that whoever has many missed prayers should occupy himself with making them up, as long as it does not cause him undue hardship in his body or finances. If he does not know the exact number he owes, he should repeat them until he is certain that his obligation has been fulfilled.

Ibn Taymiyyah held the view that if someone omitted a condition of prayer due to ignorance of its ruling, he is not obligated to repeat past prayers. Rather, he must fulfill it in the current prayer time and adhere to it in the future.
