What is the ruling on using alcohol as a sterilizer and disinfectant for germs in the medical field, and is the doctor obligated to inform the patient of its use, despite the doctor's belief in its impurity?

Scholars have differed on the use of impurities for medical treatment on the outer body, such as alcohol. Some disliked it, while others permitted it out of necessity, such as Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, who held the view that it is permissible out of necessity as long as it can be washed off afterwards.

It is preferable to avoid impurities and use an alternative if possible. Otherwise, there is leniency in the matter, and adopting the permissive opinion is permissible. The physician should alert the patient to wash off the traces of the impurity for prayer. However, if the patient believes alcohol to be pure, then there is no blame upon him for not washing it off.
