Is it permissible to hit a woman?

It is not permissible to beat one's wife without a legitimate Sharia reason. If a wife disobeys her husband in what the Sharia obliges, he may address this gradually: First: admonition and guidance. Second: abstention from sharing her bed. Third: a non-brutal beating for disciplinary purposes, avoiding the face and verbal abuse, if the previous steps prove ineffective.
