Will one who broke an oath and repented be punished with disgrace on the Day of Resurrection, and is it necessary to seek absolution from those with whom one broke an oath? And will sins that were exposed in this world and for which their perpetrator repented be disgraced on the Day of Resurrection, or is disgrace limited only to sins committed openly?

Breaking an oath (al-Hinth fi al-Yamin) is not a sin unless a person swears to perform an obligation or abstain from something unlawful. In any case, an expiation (kaffarat yamin) is due. Fulfilling the oath of a swearer (ibrar al-muqsim) is recommended, not obligatory, and the expiation is on the one who swore the oath. One who repents from a sin will not be punished or exposed. Therefore, whoever repents with sincere repentance (tawbat nasuha) is hoped that Allah will not expose him in this world or the Hereafter. As for those who do not repent and openly commit sins, they may be exposed by them on the Day of Resurrection.
