What is the punishment for children and a mother who deny a father his rights over them, falsely and slanderously file lawsuits against him, and refuse reconciliation, despite knowing their injustice towards him?

If children cut ties with their parents and treat them poorly, they are disobedient and unjust, and parental disobedience (ʿuqūq al-wālidayn) is one of the gravest major sins. If a son testifies falsely and swears a false oath, he has added another major sin to his disobedience. Similarly, if a mother denies her rightful due, she is unjust and consuming wealth unlawfully. All of them must repent. The maintenance and housing of a father are not obligatory upon adult, earning children. The separation of parents does not permit neglecting their rights; rather, it is obligatory to honor them and obey them in what is right. It is not permissible to obey one parent in cutting ties with or mistreating the other. We advise you to be patient, offer counsel, and pray for their guidance, for the prayer of a parent for their child is answered.
