The question

Did the triple divorce that was issued in a state of anger take effect, and is it permissible to take the wife back after it? Is it better to remain with the new Muslim wife or to marry an Arab Muslim girl, and what should he do with his family who object to his marriage to her? Is adultery a debt upon him that he will pay one day, and how can he forget his wife's past while they are living as Muslim spouses?

The answer

Firstly: You should not have a negative view towards other Sunni fatwa websites. Rather, you should have a good opinion of those in charge of them, as the volume of questions they receive is large, and it is not possible to hasten in answering every questioner.

Secondly: What happened in the foreign country emphasizes the importance of not traveling to such countries except with restrictions and controls, especially for young people. Often, the conditions of children there are regrettable due to their distance from religion and their committing of immoral acts. Parents should be aware of this and not prioritize their children's education over their religion and conduct.

Thirdly: Congratulations on your repentance. We praise Allah for saving you from disbelief and immorality. Clinging to the tree of repentance and holding fast to piety is obligatory upon you. Beware of negligence and returning to your former state.

Fourthly: Congratulations to your sister on her embracing Islam. We praise Allah who granted her success and guided her. She now knows the great difference between her state before and her state now, between being a disbeliever and a believer, and between the narrowness of her heart and its expansiveness.

Fifthly: One who lives far from guidance stumbles in speech, action, and thought, and lives by principles that do not conform to scripture nor align with reason, such as their concept of betrayal. You should not blame your wife for her past before Islam, as Islam erases what came before it of sins. Your position in denouncing her is weak, especially since you were part of that past and did what was unlawful for you while claiming to be Muslim, whereas she did not belong to your religion.

Sixthly: It appears from your words that your wife has embraced Islam and her Islam is good. It is obligatory upon you to treat her with kindness, strengthen her resolve, and not taunt her about her history before Islam.

Seventhly: Regarding your divorce of her, you must consult scholars to know whether the divorce actually occurred, as anger has degrees, and not every anger results in divorce. If the divorce occurred three times, she has become unlawful to you. If it did not occur, you can take her back.

Eighthly: We advise you to bring your wife to your country to free her from the environment of disbelief and corruption, provided that you treat her with kindness and do not taunt her about her history before Islam. If you cannot, then leave her.

Ninthly: Your parents' request for you to divorce her does not oblige you to obey them in this, and you will not be undutiful to your parents if you insist on keeping her as your wife.

Tenthly: If your repentance to Allah Almighty is sincere, we ask Allah that fornication not be a debt upon your neck, for Allah has promised those who repent forgiveness of sins and their transformation into good deeds.
