Does my work in civil defense, transporting the injured, the sick, and pregnant women on the verge of childbirth, fall under the meaning of the Almighty's saying: "whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind"?

Transporting the wounded, the sick, and pregnant women to the hospital is a charitable act and a significant contribution to saving lives. If the transport is accompanied by piety and sincere intention for the sake of Allah, its doer falls under the favor of the noble verse: "And whoever saves a life - it is as though he had saved all mankind." Taking a wage does not affect sincerity as long as it is secondary and not the primary objective.
