Are attendees at gatherings sinful on account of words for which one of those present is sinful due to irritation or anger?

Muslims are obligated to observe the manners of gatherings, so that nothing but good is spoken therein, and to guard the tongue from any speech that offends others. If a young person utters a statement that is religiously reprehensible, then those present are obligated to denounce it with their hand; if they are unable, then with their tongue; if they are unable, then with their heart, which is the weakest of faith. Enjoining good and forbidding evil is a collective obligation (fard kifayah); if some of those present denounce it, the sin falls away from the rest. If everyone remains silent, they are sinful, unless there is a legitimate religious excuse. Furthermore, advice must be given to whoever provoked the young person.
