What should a girl do who has secretly embraced Islam, whose father is a Muslim convert to Christianity and whose mother is Christian, in order to declare her Islam publicly and marry a Muslim man, especially given her mother's threats of ostracization and illness if she declares her Islam? And would she be sinful if she were to marry a Christian man under her mother's pressure?

Praise be to Allah for the esteemed sister's embrace of Islam, her prayers, and her fasting. We ask Him to grant her steadfastness and guide her family. It is not permissible for a Muslim woman to marry a Christian man; this constitutes zina (unlawful sexual intercourse). She must refuse him and officially declare her Islam with the help of a lawyer. If her declaration of Islam leads to her family boycotting her or falling ill, there is no sin upon her, for Allah and obedience to Him are above all others. Her steadfastness in Islam is an obligation and a duty, and she is not permitted to marry a Christian. She must officially prove her Islam and inform her family gently. The correct phrasing is: "I have a colleague who was Christian" because she became a Muslim by uttering the two testimonies of faith.
