Is it permissible to leave a Quranic radio broadcast playing at home or elsewhere?

Listening to the Holy Quran and paying attention when it is recited is recommended in Islamic law, and is only obligatory during prayer. A Muslim should be diligent in listening and not turn away unless for a task or need, out of reverence for the Quran. As for leaving a Quran broadcast playing in the house or outside, whether awake or asleep, there is no harm in it, as long as there is nothing around the recited Quran that would disturb it, or clamor, noise, and engaging in idle talk, or if it is in an inappropriate place. In these cases, it is better to turn off the broadcast out of reverence for the Quran. Sheikh Ibn Baz was asked about playing the Quran on the radio at home while going out, and he replied that "there is no harm in that if there is no idle talk around it. But if it is turned on and there are people around who are talking idly and engaging in chatter, then no, it is better to leave it off, because this involves a kind of disrespect for the Quran. However, if it is turned on and there is no one around, or there is someone listening, or silent, or sleeping, then there is no harm."
