What is the ruling on a man touching a woman when paying the fare in transportation if there is a need for that?
It is not permissible to intentionally touch non-mahram women, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "For one of you to be stabbed in the head with an iron needle is better for him than that he should touch a woman who is not lawful for him." However, if the touching occurs by mistake, it is excused, as Allah Almighty says: "And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred, but [blame lies upon] what your hearts intended," and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah has forgiven my Ummah for mistakes, forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do." Nevertheless, a Muslim should be careful and avoid anything that might lead to such an occurrence.
