Is it permissible to seek treatment for erectile dysfunction?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible to seek treatment for erectile dysfunction, as it is an illness. Islamic law has permitted seeking treatment, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Seek medical treatment, for Allah has not created a disease without creating a cure for it, except for one disease: old age." And, "Allah has not sent down any disease but that He has also sent down a cure for it; some know it, and others are ignorant of it." The conditions for treatment are that it must not lead to greater harm, it must not involve anything forbidden, there should be no laxity in exposing 'awrat (private parts), and it should only be undertaken with the consultation of a trustworthy and expert physician.
