1. Do the nursings that occurred while the nursing mother was asleep count, and is the child considered her suckling, and is it permissible for her daughters to appear before him? 2. Is a child who nursed from a woman three times considered a brother to her daughters, and is it permissible for them to appear before him, or must they cover themselves from him when he grows up? 3. If a woman nursed two children an unspecified number of times, believing that nursing one of them was sufficient, do these two children become brothers to her children, and is it permissible for her children to appear before them?

Scholars have differed regarding the number of sucklings that establish prohibition [of marriage], and the fatwa adopted by us is the view of the Shafi'is and Hanbalis, which stipulates five sucklings. The sucklings must be separate, meaning the child willingly leaves the breast. So, if you breastfed a boy five separate sucklings, he becomes your son through fosterage, and your children become his siblings. However, if your friend breastfed your son three sucklings, prohibition is not established according to us. And if a woman breastfeeds a boy more than five sucklings, he becomes her son, and her children become his siblings. However, the siblings of the foster-child are not prohibited [to marry] through their brother's fosterage. Doubt about the number of sucklings does not establish prohibition; therefore, these children are treated by her children as non-mahram.
