What is the ruling of the religion on dealing with an adulterous wife who has repented with sincere repentance, and will the husband be rewarded for covering her out of fear for his children and family?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The wife has done well by repenting from the sin of adultery. She must avoid everything that leads to indecency. Sincere repentance has its conditions. As for the husband, he must strive for his wife's chastity and not be absent from her for more than six months except with her permission. If he is absent for a valid reason, he should place her in a safe location. It is not permissible for her brother to carry out the prescribed punishment on her, for punishments are carried out by the authorities. The husband's concealing her act is a commendable action, and he must treat her well as long as she has repented. As for her purification (istibra'), it is by three menstrual cycles according to some scholars, or one cycle, unless she is pregnant by him, in which case he may approach her without purification. However, it is preferable to refrain from approaching her until she gives birth.
