Is selling the passports looted after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, which were bought for a low price and whose value increased fortyfold, permissible in Islamic law? And is the profit resulting from that lawful (halal) or unlawful (haram)?

This transaction is impermissible for several reasons:

1. Passports are not considered legally valuable property (mal mutaqawwim) in Islamic law. They are sold as proof of nationality and citizenship, not as a booklet of papers. 2. These passports were taken through usurpation (ghasb), and it is forbidden to trade in anything taken through usurpation. 3. Selling them opens a wide door to deception and forgery, and Allah has forbidden cooperation in sin and aggression.

A Muslim must avoid trading in them and dispose of previous profits by spending them on matters beneficial to Muslims.
