There is no authentic narration attributing the word "khuluq" (character/disposition) to Allah Almighty. The narrations concerning this are weak or fabricated, such as the "Indeed, Allah Almighty has a hundred and seventeen dispositions," and "Generosity is the greatest disposition of Allah," and "Emulate the dispositions of Allah." Nevertheless, a number of scholars have mentioned the encouragement to emulate the dispositions of Allah Almighty. It is authentically narrated that Allah is described with shyness (haya') and generosity (karam) in the hadith: "Indeed, your Lord is Shy and Generous; He is shy to turn away His servant empty-handed when he raises his hands to Him." The meaning of "khuluq" and "sifah" (attribute) is the same, but it is more befitting for a Muslim to adhere to what has been authentically established concerning Allah Almighty.
